Stitching Up Autumn: College Textiles Students Create Pumpkin Magic

This autumn, the College textiles students at St Piers brought a burst of creativity and seasonal spirit to campus with their beautifully handcrafted pumpkins. As part of their curriculum, students explored textile techniques and design thinking to produce a range of soft fabric pumpkins that were as charming as they were unique.

Each student approached the project with their own flair—selecting fabrics, experimenting with textures, and learning to stitch, stuff, and shape their pumpkins with care and precision. The result? A delightful collection of autumnal decorations that showcased not only their growing skills but also their individuality and imagination.

The pumpkin project was more than just a craft activity. It was a chance for students to build confidence, develop fine motor skills, and experience the satisfaction of seeing a project through from concept to completion. The classroom buzzed with excitement as students shared ideas, helped one another, and took pride in their finished pieces.

Some of the pumpkins were displayed around the college, adding a festive touch to the learning environment, while others were sold or gifted—spreading joy and demonstrating the value of student-led creativity.

Projects like this highlight the importance of hands-on learning and the power of art to build confidence, independence, and a sense of achievement. Well done to all the students involved—you’ve truly stitched up something special!
